Global Markets - AI Engineering Intern

JCAP

JCAP is a global macro hedge fund investing across public and private markets, asset classes, and geographies - combining institutional rigor with entrepreneurial agility.

Purpose of the Job

We take a technology-forward approach to markets and are seeking an intern to build alongside our global macro team. In this role, you will design and ship tools that portfolio managers and traders rely on daily, working at the intersection of financial markets and frontier AI.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build LLM- and agent-based systems to ingest, synthesize, and pressure-test financial data - including a conversational interface that unifies our suite of investment tools
  • Integrate and orchestrate frontier model APIs (Anthropic, OpenAI, and openweight stacks), spanning multi-agent workflows, tool use, and data retrieval pipelines
  • Maintain and enhance existing systems through proactive updates and timely bug fixes
  • Work directly with portfolio managers and traders to identify workflow bottlenecks, then design and ship solutions rapidly, iterating on live feedback
  • Contribute original ideas - wherever AI can create an edge in macro investing, we want you to find it

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, Statistics, Finance, or a related discipline
  • Strong Python proficiency; machine learning experience a plus
  • Fluency with the modern data stack (pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn) and the LLM ecosystem (embeddings, RAG, fine-tuning, agent frameworks)
  • Genuine curiosity about frontier AI, including foundation models and agentic systems
  • Genuine interest in markets and global macro
  • Analytical rigor, intellectual honesty, and the discipline to stress-test your own work
  • Proactive, self-directed working style suited to a small, fast-moving team
  • Excellent written and spoken English; mandarin Chinese an advantage
